PRIME MALE BLOG : GET BACK TO YOUR PRIME
In last week’s blog, we discussed how to handle the holidays when you are trying to lose weight or build muscle. This week’s topic is closely related. We are tackling the question of when is the best time to start a new training program.
Note: This email was originally written in November 2024, so keep that in mind when reading the question and answer
Question: I want to get in the best shape of my life next year, but I am not sure whether to start now or wait until January 1st. It seems a little silly to start a new training program now, only to begin eating badly over the holidays. What should I do?
Answer: I used to know a few personal trainers who refused to take on clients who said they would start on January 1st. They believed, with some justification, that this mindset would lead to failure.
Personally, I disagree with this view. I can understand why many people like the idea of a fresh start on New Year’s Day. My advice, and this will not surprise anyone who read last week’s blog, is to start now.
Stop chasing perfection. Focus on making small improvements to your health and lifestyle, even if you are about to eat your bodyweight in turkey. If you do decide to wait until New Year’s Day, then you need to prepare now.
Sign up for a gym in December and attend a few sessions to get familiar with the equipment. Create your workout program in advance, and make sure you know how to perform each exercise correctly.
Prepare some meals ahead of time if possible. Having healthy meals ready to defrost can help you start January strong.
Order your workout gear early and treat yourself to a new pair of running shoes.
Get your supplements in advance, especially while Black Friday promotions are available. Having your fat burners or testosterone boosters ready for January 1st will give you an advantage over those who order later.

This way, when January 1st arrives, you are fully prepared. Too many people say they will start in January, but never make it past the second week.
Hope that helps.
